"My inclination to abstain from voting comes from years of research into the history of political power and geopolitics, as well as the basic observance of today's political process and the system it emboldens which enables the least among us to dominate the many.

It comes from shaking off the mental chains of indoctrination and refusing to blindly subscribe to antiquated and dilapidated political ideologies-the fervent false left/right paradigm perpetuated by public schooling and large media conglomerates.

It comes from taking the initiative to study the vast amount of information available, to disregard groupthink, and draw my own conclusions, ones not influenced by nonsensical propaganda and sloganeers (“vote or die”, “change we can believe in”).

It comes from the realization that the world, as it is today, is not the only foreseeable way in which to organize it, that another world is indeed possible, and that perpetuating and legitimizing a system which disenfranchises the masses, whilst claiming to have our collective interests at heart, is, in fact, a disservice to all.

I abstain because I know that relinquishing my own innate power and placing it foolishly into the hands of another hasn't worked for hundreds of years, and that inevitably power will corrupt and beget candidates who pander to campaign donors as well as their own personal self interests.

It comes from knowing that it is time for humanity to evolve past the State.

It is time to educate and empower ourselves and each other.

It is time to build new models and structures, creating sorely needed alternative options which eliminate hierarchy and enable horizontalism, egalitarianism and the autonomy of the individual, thus creating true freedom.

It comes from the realization that walking away from the current model and taking the initiative to build a new world peacefully, responsibly and intelligently will, in and of itself, render the State obsolete, and that a ballot in a box is a joke at best, - the further tightening of the noose at worst.

When the game is rigged, the only winning move is to stop playing and to begin taking the steps of the journey which will lead to authentic liberation, actualizing the freedom these “elected” officials falsely purport to hold dear.

It is time to let go of that which does not work.

It is time to take the power back which we have given away.

It is time to grow up, organize and do the work necessary to create the reality so full of potential and abundance, which is eagerly waiting to come into being for those willing to embrace the struggle to achieve it."

Meikleour Beech Hedges by Neuk
Meikleour Beech Hedges
The Meikleour Beech Hedge(s) (European Beech = Fagus sylvatica), located near Meikleour, Perth and Kinross, Scotland, alongside the A93 Perth-Blairgowrie Road, was planted in the autumn of 1745 by Jean Mercer and her husband, Robert Murray Nairne on the Marquess of Lansdowne's Meikleour estate. It is said the hedge grows towards the heavens because the men who planted it were killed at the Battle of Culloden.

The hedge is noted in the Guinness World Records as the tallest and longest hedge on earth, reaching 30 metres (100 ft) in height and 530 metres (1/3 mile) in length.

Taken with a Nikon point-n-shoot in 2005.

Not sure if this is a sycamore tree or not, but it's neat.
